It was not until 1896 that Bettas started to seem outdoors of Asia, when a couple of breeding pairs have been introduced in Germany, and not until 1910 did the species start to show up in America. Although scientist Frank Locke of San Franciso received a number of Betta Splendens, he thought he had found a new species when one of his fish had longer, red fins. Actually, what he was truly seeing was the initial of a natural mutation inside the Betta Splendens species that gave them far more colour. Considering that then, these fish have already been bred increasingly for colour, fin size/shape, and a favorable demeanor and raised to become sold as household pets, not fighters.
