If you did buy your iPhone from O2 and you're a Pay Month-to-month buyer then you can ask O2 to unlock your iPhone at any time, as long as it not an iPhone 6 or 6s (including the plus fashions) (They say that they haven't any plans to offer unlocks for the iPhone 6 or 6 plus any time soon.)
